David Stearns is in as the Mets president of baseball operations, and Buck Showalter is out as manager.

So, Stearns will now begin his search for the team’s next skipper, leaving Sal to lament that the Mets will likely move on from managers like Showalter for good.

“It’s the end of the Mets ever having an actual manager again,” Sal said. “From now on, it’s gonna be the data applicators like everyone else around baseball, for the most part. The old school manager, that is no more. It was their last shot for Buck, and now it’s not gonna be the case anymore.”

BT noted that those type of managers, like Craig Counsell in Milwaukee, where Stearns came from, have enjoyed plenty of success, but Sal countered with managers like Showalter who are having plenty of success of their own.

“How’s [Bruce] Bochy doing in Texas? Going to the postseason,” Sal said. “Dusty Baker winning a World Series, there is something to be said about guys who actually know the game as opposed to analytics and all that nonsense.

“I felt sad. I knew it was coming, and I get it…I felt sad yesterday.”
