C-Mac wanted Bryce Harper on the Yankees, badly, especially after watching him dominate the playoffs up until game six of the NLCS.
But, watching the World Series, there is no what-could-have-been storyline that brings him more pain as a Yankee fan than Rangers star Corey Seager.
“He fit this team like a glove as well,” C-Mac said. “The idea that you couldn’t figure out a way to still have Volpe on this team, figure out how to play him at second and move Gleyber Torres…he’s so dynamic, he’s gonna win his second World Series MVP, he’s a lefty, excellent hitter, contact and power, great shortstop. He’s exactly what would have helped that team. It was just money.
“Seager felt different. That timing felt different. I know Harper fits them like a glove too, but they did just trade for Stanton and make it to the ALCS. It felt like they were on the verge. But when Corey Seager was available, you knew they needed that boost, you knew what the faults were, and he was the perfect fit. It never felt like an option…it just sucks.”
Seager blasted another World Series home run in Tuesday’s game three win, putting Texas on the cusp of a title, and putting Seager’s World Series OPS well above the 1.000 mark. C-Mac can only watch and imagine that lefty swing in the Bronx, where he felt it should have been.
“Watching him play and perform like this,” C-Mac said. “Out of all the guys…who either used to play for us or should have played for us…I have to admit, I think Corey Seager is even worse than Harper.”
