The Rangers secured their third straight win on Wednesday night, with Jonathan Quick standing out again in a 3-1 victory. Still, C-Mac sees reasons to be worried about the Blueshirts and their chances to finally break through and get back to a Stanley Cup.
“I’m concerned about the Rangers,” C-Mac said. “It’s a great win, three wins in a row, and the last two have been good, solid wins against good playoff teams. But right now, I’m worried about what happens when they can’t score power play goals, and as well as Quick is playing right now, goalie is a question.
“Part of the reason you’ve seen the best out of Quick, especially at this age, is because he doesn’t have to play all the time. I don’t expect this to continue.
I don’t know if he’s going to be great forever.”
At 38 years old, Quick’s durability through a two-month playoff run is a legitimate concern, and even as Quick has made three straight starts over the struggling Igor Shesterkin, C-Mac says Shesterkin needs to be the guy for New York to make a deep playoff run.
“The goalie still has to be Igor…I don’t think we’re at that point,” C-Mac said. “But I do think this trial of giving him something to think about, and losing ice time, that doesn’t have to end tomorrow. This could be a prolonged thing on some level until Quick stops winning games. But if Quick continues to win and the Rangers continue to play well with him between the pipes, that’s the way it should stay.”
