Craig Carton took the final minutes of Friday’s final Carton and Roberts to say goodbye and wrap up his final full-time show on WFAN.

So, without any further delay, we’ll let Craig take it away. Here’s what he had to say before signing off one final time:

“I very much appreciate all the well wishes. It does mean a lot to me on a personal level that our show resonates with so many people, and my life story resonates with so many people, and I say that with the realization that there are people out there who hater my guts and wish I never got a second chance. I love you guys too. If I’m living rent free in your head at that level, that’s your problem, not my problem. You don’t negatively impact my life one bit.

“For everyone who appreciates the comeback story and is a part of it and wishes me well, I can never properly thank all of you enough…I will continue to do the public service show here on Saturday mornings. If nothing else, I truly hope that my story and my comeback paves the way for thousands of comebacks and thousands of positive stories like mine. I do believe it is a testament that once you start living your life honestly and openly, and take ownership of your mistakes and are willing to ask for help and put the work in…to try and rebuild relationships, you can achieve anything you want in life.

“There is no such thing as the perfect person. We all make mistakes. Clearly, there are different degrees of mistakes that we make, but I will tell you, if I can come back and be successful on the radio and on TV and recapture lost relationships…then it is not a cliché to say that anybody can do it. But it does not happen overnight, and I recognize that I am a very lucky and very fortunate person to have been given this second opportunity at life.

“I want to thank, more than anyone else, Chris Oliviero. I am well aware that I don’t have a career without him here.

“To Tommy and Big Mac…I busted your guys balls pretty good over the years, and that’s out of love. Nothing would make me happier to one day wake up and see you guys flourishing overnights and beyond. Always know I will be a resource for you whenever you need it.

“Evan, I remember the day you came to my house with a box of rainbow cookies and asked, ‘Why me?’ I said, ‘Because Bart Scott said no.’ (Both Craig and Evan shared a good laugh at that one).

“You know I love you and wish you the very best. You have done something that is not easy to do, which is change your style of radio after 15-plus years of doing it one way, and doing it very well…it’s been great to get to know you and your family.

“I’ll leave you with one final thought. That is just two simple words, which are thank you. Thank you for letting me back on the radio and believing in me, thank you for respecting my story and my journey, and for giving me the opportunity to do what I love so much…I don’t take it for granted.

“I will miss WFAN a great deal, and I appreciate all of the support, and I will leave you with those two words. Thank you.”
