New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was removed late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to Arizona, replaced by Colt McCoy for Big Blue’s final drive.
Jones was 11-of-21 for 127 yards on the day, but was sacked six times, looked to be struggling with movement in the pocket on his final few drives, and was visibly limping off the field after throwing an incompletion to Evan Engram to end a drive with 5:33 left.
McCoy was seen warming up several times, but did not come in until the Giants got the ball with 2:34 remaining and the Giants trailing 26-7. He went 2-for-3 for 18 yards but was sacked on his first snap – the seventh of the day for the Cards and fourth for Haason Reddick – and his lone drive ended with a fumble, courtesy of a strip sack by Reddick – who, in the process, set a new Cardinals franchise record with five sacks.
Jones missed last week’s victory in Seattle with a hamstring injury suffered against Cincinnati on Nov. 29 – McCoy went 13-for-22 for 105 yards with one TD and one pick in his stead – and his return to form will be huge for a Big Blue squad that faces Cleveland, Baltimore, and Dallas down the stretch as they battle Washington for the NFC East lead.
