The Mets had a first inning to forget in Wednesday’s series finale against the Astros, squandering a bases loaded, no out rally thanks to a double play when Pete Alonso was ruled to be running out of the baseline.
Alonso tapped a check swing comeback back to the mound, and Christian Javier threw home for the first out, and the throw from home to first skipped into the outfield, allowing two runs to score, at least until it was ruled that Alonso was running on the infield grass, and was therefore out.
The Mets didn’t score, and allowed two runs in the bottom half of the inning after a catcher’s interference and two wild pitches.
Evan, watching along during Wednesday’s Carton and Roberts, was not happy.
“That’s the New York Mets’ season,” Evan said. “The Mets have done everything wrong, whether it’s baserunning, managerial moves, clutch hitting, starting pitching, bullpen work, they have pulled off something incredible. They miraculously f--- up at almost everything when they play baseball, and this is your latest example.”
Fortunately for Evan, the Mets wound up taking a 4-2 lead just two innings later, temporarily lightening his mood before Houston tied it at four shortly after.
