Evan frustrated with Buck Showalter's 'lame as hell' lineup explanations: 'He's in love with veterans'

Evan Roberts immediately saw the euphoria of the biggest win of the Mets season give way to frustration over Buck Showalter once again prioritizing playing time for veterans who haven't proven much of anything so far this season.

Mark Vientos, who went deep in his season debut on Wednesday night, was benched in favor of Daniel Vogelbach at DH the very next afternoon, and Evan wasn't happy about it.

"Mark Vientos needs to play," Evan said. "He's been earning it for the last month and a half.

"Buck's excuses are lame as hell. DH the guy. Enough of Daniel Vogelbach…This manager, who I'm not asking to be fired…I'm just calling out things that make no sense."

Showalter's managerial style reminds Evan of what Knicks fans saw in Tom Thibodeau before their season turned around, as Thibodeau stuck with struggling veterans like Evan Fournier and Derrick Rose until more playing time for youngsters like Quentin Grimes and Immanuel Quickley helped turn the season.

"What I'm seeing from Buck over the first month is exactly what I saw from Tom Thibodeau," Evan said. "He's in love with veterans.

"The Mets' season last night felt like it turned around. Why? Because Mark Vientos hit a two-run home run in the seventh. Why? Because Francisco Alvarez, who he didn't even want to play when he first came up, hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth. Let it happen, bro. Let it happen."
