The Jets are 4-6, and they look like a disaster on almost every level right now – which, in Evan’s mind might be good now that we really know Zach Wilson isn’t him.
But, there’s a problem, at least when it comes to a potential Jets playoff push.
“Despite these trees falling in front of them, and they’re good trees to fall down because it's paving the road, the problem is this football team can't score points,” Evan said Wednesday. “I don't know how any Jet fan can have optimism that they can make the playoffs; I've tried to be optimistic at times, and I know there's a segment of the Jets fan base that for some reason has this level of optimism.”
Why is there no optimism, you say?
“For the last three weeks coming out of this bye, they were lucky to beat the Giants, they scored six points against the Chargers, and they lost to the Las Vegas Raiders,” Evan said. “They committed dumb penalty after dumb penalty after dumb penalty, and they can't get in the end zone. So, it’s not about the teams around them, or the standings, or the schedule – it's about them.”
Tiki Barber sat back, and after looking at the Jets’ upcoming schedule, he had two words to explain why some Jets fans are still so optimistic.
“Aaron Rodgers. That's all you got to say is Aaron Rodgers. It's a hang-on until Aaron Rodgers gets healthy,” Tiki said. “Now, it's crazy even talking about this, because there's no way that he should be able to play this year with this Achilles, but everything you hear is all looking towards him playing – and when even the coach starts talking about this, I mean, you can't ignore it anymore.”
