The Giants did not technically make any cuts on Tuesday, when NFL rosters had to be pared down from 85 to 80, but they did lose at least 59 games of manpower.

To get the roster down to 80, the Giants placed linebacker Darrian Beavers and tight ends Ricky Seals-Jones and Andre Miller on injured reserve, ending their seasons, and also placed offensive linemen Nick Gates and Matt Peart on the physically unable to perform list, knocking them out for at least the first four games each.

Beavers was the Giants’ sixth-round pick in the 2022 Draft, but suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s preseason win over Cincinnati. Seals-Jones, who signed a one-year deal in March, will miss the season due to a toe injury, whole Miller, who was an undrafted free agent and converted from wide receiver to tight end, will miss the season due to a forearm injury.

Seals-Jones was signed as a possible TE1, but the Giants’ depth chart at the position now consists of rookie fourth-round pick Daniel Bellinger, free agent signing Jordan Akins, holdover Chris Myarick, and undrafted free agent Austin Allen.

Gates and Peart have both been on PUP since the beginning of camp, and officially head off the roster as they continue to rehab from injuries that ended their 2021 seasons early. Peart tore his ACL in December, and could be ready by the time his mandatory time on PUP is up, but Gates is still working his way back from a gruesome broken left leg suffered in Week 2 against Washington that nearly ended his career, not just his season.

Big Blue may make another move this week to add a kicker if Graham Gano is unable to clear concussion protocol prior to Sunday’s preseason finale against the Jets, but if so, they may not have to look far: one of the Jets’ five cuts was veteran Eddy Piniero, who made all eight of his field goal attempts and nine of 10 extra points last year for Gang Green and was 3-for-3 (one FG, 2 PAT) this preseason but lost the Jets’ kicking competition to former Ram and Cowboy Greg Zuerlein.
