The Giants brought in Drew Lock to their quarterback room earlier this week, and there apparently is a chance that the former Seahawk starts for Big Blue in Week 1.

Seattle GM John Schneider told the Wyman and Bob show on Thursday that the Seahawks had interest in bringing back Lock, but he went to New York after being told he would have a chance to compete for the starting job.

“They basically sold him on the opportunity to compete to be the starter,” Schneider said, via SNY. “And he felt like it was the right opportunity. He looked at Baker Mayfield’s opportunity last year and felt that this could be something similar.”

If the Giants indeed did tell Lock he would be able to compete to be the starter, it would suggest that they either don’t believe in Daniel Jones anymore, despite what Joe Schoen has said publicly, or they are not sure if Jones will be physically ready for the season opener. Jones is still recovering from ACL surgery, and while Schoen told reporters that he is progressing well, anything can happen over the next six months.

Lock started two games with the Seahawks last season, and started 23 over his career.
