Gio can't see how Gerard Gallant 'survives' with Rangers after game seven disaster

After the Rangers were bounced from the first round by the hated Devils in a decisive game seven, attention turned towards the future of the organization after falling well short of expectations.

After reaching the conference final the year before, and after going all in at the trade deadline for Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko, there will likely some kind of casualty, and Gio says it will be the head coach.

“I don’t know how, in the world of the NHL and the way that coaches get changed all the time and the expectations that were on the Rangers after last year…how he can survive,” Gio said of Gerard Gallant. “That, to me, isn’t a morning after, reactionary take. This is what happens in the NHL. Guys don’t survive.

“This team was supposed to be a team that at least got back to where they were last year, and instead, they lose in seven games to the Devils, a team that came out of nowhere last year, and they get shut out in game seven.”

Gallant did just lead his group to an improbable run to the Eastern Conference Final a year before, but after adding established playoff stars to the roster this season, losing to a hated rival in the first round, especially after taking a 2-0 series lead by outscoring New Jersey 10-2, is not an acceptable outcome.

“I don’t know how he survives,” Gio said. “I don’t know if that’s going to be the right decision or not, I just know that’s probably going to be the decision.”
