Gio declares Mets fans had better season than Phillies after crushing NLCS loss

Gio was in high spirits on Wednesday morning after the Phillies shockingly fell to the out-of-nowhere Diamondbacks in game seven of the NLCS.

Gio's Mets have been out of it for months, but as a fan, he says he would without a doubt prefer to be a Met fan this season than a Philly fan.

"Watching the Phillies enjoy themselves in the way they have over the last few years…and this year it's even more intense, and everyone's giving credit to them and their fans, and to watch them go down to the Arizona Diamondbacks at home, and they have to walk out of there," Gio said. "I would rather, and I mean this. I would have rather had the season the Mets had, where I was emotionally detached in June, than deal with that last night."

The Mets were one of the biggest disappointments of the MLB season in 2023, selling at the trade deadline after entering the year with the highest payroll in baseball history. But Gio would rather know his team is out of it at the All-Star break than put that much emotional investment into a playoff run, only to have it end in heartbreaking fashion to a team that had no business being there in the first place.

"When you have expectations…like the Phillies did when they came home 3-2, and you're the big story in baseball…and you lose both of those games, that is a miserable season," Gio said. "You won't forget that, and you won't remember a damn thing before that.

"The feeling that the Philly fans had last night is not worth the ride. You went to the World Series last year, and you fell short of that…I'd much rather have my team out in June. We weren't hurt. We were annoyed, but we weren't hurt…the Met fan had a better season than the Phillies fan."
