Gio taking pleasure in Max Scherzer 'falling apart' in key games for Rangers

Max Scherzer was lit up in the latest loss for the freefalling Rangers, surrendering seven runs on six hits in just three innings of work on Wednesday night.

Scherzer, who recently felt forearm tightness, told reporters that every pitcher is battling through ailments at this point in the season, but for Boomer and Gio, it was a song and dance they are all-too familiar with from Scherzer's time with the Mets.

"The only thing they got going for them in Texas is, 'at least we're not paying him,'" Boomer said, noting the Mets eating a large chunk of Scherzer's salary in the trade. "Max Scherzer has ruined that team…when you think about Max in particular, when he got traded to the Dodgers, he pitched particularly well when he got there, then in the playoffs, he got a tired arm. Then of course he came here, and when you needed him here to win the big games, he couldn't do it…now, the same thing is happening for the Rangers.

"I wouldn't be surprised if they put him on the IL."

Gio admittedly took pleasure in watching Scherzer get bombed by the Astros on Wednesday, including serving up a grand slam to Jose Abreu in what was a big game with major playoff implications.

"I am so happy he has fallen apart…he's one of my least favorite Mets of all time," Gio said. "He was great throughout his career…but as far as the Mets go, he is one of my least favorite players to ever put on that uniform."
