When he met the media on Tuesday, Mets team president and acting GM Sandy Alderson had this to day about the Mets hiring a president of baseball operations, so that he could focus more on the business side of the team as planned:
"Did I say we expected to hire one last year? Probably. I won't make that same mistake today. We're going to certainly look at all of our options and we want to strengthen the leadership on the baseball side, but we'll see where it takes us."
Alderson also said this about his role in the future:
"I work for Steve, and as I've said, I'm not going to do this forever, but as long as I'm needed, I'll be here."
According to Audacy Sports MLB insider Jon Heyman, however, there is a somewhat finite tenure in mind for Alderson, as well as a future plan:
Alderson was brought back by Cohen to help on the business side, but the Mets' original plans to hire a president of baseball operations instead led to just hiring a GM in Jared Porter. However, Porter was dismissed barely a month into his tenure due to inappropriate conduct in the past, moving Zack Scott up to acting GM – and when Scott was placed on administrative leave last week due to a DWI arrest, Alderson once again became the main man on the baseball side, taking over Scott's duties.
