The Rangers continue the home stretch of their regular season against the Red Wings on Saturday, but they will do so without Tyler Motte, who is likely out for the rest of the regular season.
Motte, who was hit up high last week in a 3-0 win against the Penguins that sparked multiple scrums the rest of the game, is expected to be out a while, per head coach Gerard Gallant.
"We're not looking for him for the next seven games, that's quite for sure," said Gallant, via the New York Post. "I just heard he's out for quite a while."
Gallant had said shortly after the injury, which came on a rough hit from Pittsburgh's Anthony Angello, that it was believed to be a "significant" upper body injury, though not a head injury. Motte's availability for the playoffs is up in the air, but his regular season appears to be over after just nine games with New York.
Motte was a trade deadline acquisition from the Canucks as a valuable depth piece, though the center has not logged a point in a Rangers sweater just yet. He has seven goals and eight assists in 49 total games this season.
