Joe Benigno believes the days could be numbered for the Jets regime, and when asked by Evan who he would want as replacements, he brought up a name that should be very familiar to fans of the franchise.

“You know, I wouldn't mind having Rex [Ryan] back,” Joe said. “Rex and Mike Tannenbaum back together again. Wouldn't be the worst thing.

“And I'll tell you right now, you know this, Rex would run back here to coach this team. He's got such a chip on his shoulder that you’d need a wheelbarrow to bring the chip with him.”

Ryan was head coach of the Jets during their last peak, reaching consecutive AFC title games in 2009 and 2010. He last coached with the Bills in 2016, but Joe wouldn’t hold that against Ryan.

“Dick Vermeil went a long time,” Joe said, noting Vermeil’s gap in coaching from 1983 to 1997.
