Joe B was filling in for Craig on Thursday, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, as he was on air with Evan while the Mets were losing a series to the lowly Reds.
“The Mets are a disaster,” Joe said. “They’ve got no pitching. Even if [Justin] Verlander is Verlander from last year, the pitching is in shambles.”
Joe has seen enough with many of New York’s struggling veterans, and says it’s long past time to call up the prospects to inject some new blood into a lifeless lineup that was shut out by Cincinnati on its bullpen day.
“You got Baty up, you got Alvarez, it looks like you’ve really got something with those guys,” Joe said. “Get rid of Guillorme, I’ve had enough of Guillorme, I’ve had enough of Escobar, even Marte. He doesn’t look like the same guy. I’m bringing up Mauricio, I’m bringing up Vientos. I put Mauricio at second, McNeil in right field, and let’s go.”
It’s a far cry from where Joe was with his Mets just a few weeks ago, but now, it’s hard to imagine things getting much worse than a sub-.500 record after losing series to teams like the Nationals, Tigers, Rockies, and Reds.
“They go out to California, they win seven of the first eight, you’re all pumped up,” Joe said. “And it’s all just fallen apart.”
