The NBA All-Star Game on March 7 will be Team LeBron vs. Team Durant.
Kevin Durant was the leading vote-getter in the Eastern Conference standings, and will be one of the captains for the unique format that will see KD and LeBron James draft their teams from the eligible pool of players.
Kyrie Irving will be one of those Durant has to choose from for sure, as Irving finished second by weighted score in the Eastern Conference backcourt race, placing second in fan and player vote and fourth in the media vote.
Joining those two as the voted-in East starters are Bradley Beal, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Joel Embiid, while the Western Conference starting group includes LeBron, Steph Curry, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and Kawhi Leonard.
James Harden finished third in East backcourt voting with a weighted score of 3 (finishing third in all three parts of the vote), while Knicks forward Julius Randle was seventh in the front court vote.
Durant, who has the highest scoring average in All-Star Game history at 25 points per game, will make his 11th straight appearance in seasons he has played, while Irving’s nod is his seventh – and both now join a select group of players who have been voted in as an All-Star starter with three different teams.
The All-Star Game reserves, featuring seven players from each conference as selected by NBA head coaches, will revealed on Feb. 23, and the All-Star Draft will be held on March 4. The game itself will be held on March 7 as part of a modified one-day All-Star celebration, with the Skills Challenge and Three-Point Contest being held prior to the 8 p.m. tipoff, and the Slam Dunk Contest happening at halftime.
