Quentin Grimes appeared to suffer a scary knee injury on Friday night as he was carried into the Knicks locker room, but the promising rookie has reportedly avoided surgery.
According to multiple reports and first reported by Sports Illustrated's Ashley Nicole Moss, Grimes will be re-evaluated in roughly two weeks after further testing revealed that surgery will not be necessary. New York announced shortly after Grimes exited Friday's loss to the Heat that the first-round pick had suffered a subluxation of his right patella, or a partially dislocated kneecap.
Grimes bumped into P.J. Tucker along the baseline after trying to get through a screen, and did not get back up. He tried to leave under his own power before he was carried through the tunnel and into the locker room.
Grimes had become a key contributor for New York, shooting 42 percent from the floor and 38 percent from downtown in and average of 23 minutes over his last 25 games. Four of his last five games were starts, though he suffered his injury just 14 seconds after checking into Friday's game at Madison Square Garden.
UPDATE: New York confirmed the news on Saturday that Grimes would be re-evaluated in two weeks.
