The Giants have reportedly restructured Leonard Williams’ contract in Joe Schoen’s continued effort to manage the team’s salary cap troubles.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the defensive lineman and former Jets first-round pick has had just under $18 million of his base salary converted into a signing bonus, which will free up just under $12 million in cap space for this year.

Per Yates, the restructured deal also includes a potential void year after this season, but that would leave $8.3 million in dead cap space next year.

Williams signed a multi-year deal with Big Blue prior to last season, after he logged 11.5 sacks in 2020. He played in all 17 games last season and recorded 6.5 sacks along with 34 solo tackles. He is set to make $18 million next season.
