Mark Vientos was used as a pinch hitter in Thursday's win over the Phillies, and it seems like Vientos' role with the Mets will remain in a bench capacity moving forward.
In the 10 games that Vientos has made an appearance since May 17, he has only played the full game three times, and has been used as a pinch hitter three times.
After tearing it up in Triple-A as a regular starter, the 23-year-old admits that all he can do at this point is try and find comfort in his new role.
"It's an adjustment, honestly," Vientos said. "This game is all about adjusting, and I'm adjusting to my role right now. I feel like I'm doing a good job and I'm working hard every day, so that's all I can do right now."
It's been a tough adjustment so far. Vientos' pinch hit appearance on Thursday did result in a run-scoring sacrifice fly, but on the whole, he has just five hits in 26 at-bats on the season, and hasn't gone deep since his first game of the season against the Rays.
So, Vientos has tried to keep things simple, and approach his new role as if it were his usual one.
"Just taking it as if I'm playing it every single day," Vientos said.
