As if Zach Wilson didn’t spend enough time on his back in Week 1 he will now be without his starting left tackle for a few weeks.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Jets left tackle Mekhi Becton requires “arthroscopic knee surgery to clean up damaged cartilage” and is expected to miss four to six weeks.
While Becton’s absence is an enormous loss for the Jets, this actually might be good news.

The second-year left tackle had to be carted off the field on Sunday and CBS analyst James Lofton reported that Becton was having tests done to see if he tore his ACL, which would have ended his season.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said that Becton had suffered a knee dislocation that popped back into place.

The fact that Becton should be able to return this year is encouraging, but his absence will be felt on what is already a struggling offensive line unit.
Wilson, making his NFL debut on Sunday, was constantly under pressure as he was sacked six times and took 10 QB hits over the course of the game.
Without Becton it will continue to be a challenge to keep Wilson protected as he adjusts to the NFL.
