Living in Colombia, Carlos Carrasco's father Luis does his best to watch all of his son's games, but until Wednesday, he hadn't seen Carlos in a year, and hadn't seen him pitch in person since 2019.
Luis was at Citi Field to watch Carlos take mound for the Mets series finale against the Nationals, and he had plenty of opportunities to stand from his seat and cheer on his son.
Carrasco tossed five shutout innings in a win over Washington, escaping multiple jams due to five walks, but every time Carrasco escaped trouble, Luis was up and enthusiastically cheering on his son, making the most of one of the few times he is able to watch his son pitch in person.
Buck Showalter said the father and son were able to meet up in the clubhouse after the game in a wonderful moment for the Carrasco family, and the Mets.
"We've had a lot of emotional moments already this year, but his dad was in the locker room afterwards…if that doesn't tug at your heart, that's a full pull," Showalter said.
"He came in after the game, part of a postgame thing with him, but it meant a lot to him."
