A Mets fan went viral on Thursday night after cameras caught her screaming to Starling Marte to not “swing at everything,” just before Marte struck out on three pitches to end the game.
Marte stepped in the box in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and the Mets down by one, but the struggling veteran swung at three straight changeups from Brewers closer Devin Williams, swinging and missing at two of them in between a weak foul ball.
Just before Marte stepped in, the fan screamed, “Don’t swing at everything!” just before Marte swung at every pitch he saw, dropping the Mets to yet another new low.
Marte’s season OPS is now down to just .634 after an All-Star season last year.
