BT: Francisco Alvarez has makings of an 'absolute superstar'

BT isn't buying into the Mets, despite their recent four-game winning streak, but he is buying stock in the hero of New York's most recent victory.

Rookie catcher Francisco Alvarez cranked a game-tying home run on Wednesday night, with the Mets down to their last strike, and BT is in awe of the 21-year-old's ability to make adjustments within an at-bat, like he did on Wednesday night in the ninth inning.

"When I see a young kid going to right field the way he does, and making the in-game, mid at-bat adjustments he makes, it just shouts 'absolute superstar,'" BT said. "There's no hitting coach in the batter's box with him. There's no iPad. He is making that adjustment on the fly."

BT was even more impressed by Alvarez's home run the day before, which traveled 467 feet after he looked overmatched earlier in the at-bat.

"He looked lost with that one check swing," BT said. "He learned how to do whatever he had to do mid at-bat. That is so impressive."

But to come through with the game, and a winning streak, on the line on Wednesday night, BT says the Mets may have themselves a real star in the former top-ranked prospect.

"If you have that aptitude in a high-pressure situation…that tells me, over the course of 162, when you really figure it out, he's not just gonna be a thumper," BT said. "He's gonna be a refined hitter. He's awesome."
