The Mets have announced a temporary solution to their Kodai Senga problem.
The team revealed Tuesday afternoon that the struggling righty has been placed on the 15-day IL (retroactive to April 27) with lumbar spine inflammation, and called up Christian Scott from Triple-A to take his place on the active roster.
Senga had been dreadful for the Mets since his first two starts of the season, allowing 17 runs in his past three outings, a span of 8.1 innings. He lasted just 2.2 innings against the lowly Rockies on Sunday. He holds an ERA of 9.00 on the year.
Health has been a consistent issue for Senga across his MLB career. After an All-Star campaign in 2023 in which he finished second in Rookie of the Year voting, Senga pitched just 5.1 innings in 2024 due to a calf injury and 113.1 in 2025.
Things had gotten so bad for Senga this season that talk of a possible demotion to the minors was on the table, but the Mets avoided that by placing him on the IL, hoping the injury is a cause for his lack of production.
Scott pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one run in his lone big-league appearance of 2026. The 27-year-old has allowed eight earned runs in 13.2 innings in Triple-A.
