Steve Cohen reportedly looked into adding retractable roof to Citi Field

The Mets were completely washed out this past weekend due to heavy rain in the New York area, and Steve Cohen has reportedly looked into a way to make rainouts at Citi Field a thing of the past.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Cohen pondered putting a retractable roof on Citi Field, a project that he found would cost $800 million. With that hefty price tag in mind, even the free-spending Cohen found it to be a very difficult investment to justify.

Per Heyman, Cohen is now considering a retractable roof "a missed opportunity," as having one installed when Citi Field was being constructed would have been significantly cheaper.

Heyman also reported that the Wilpons considered a retractable roof when plans for Citi Field were being made, and it would have been roughly $125 million. That wasn't followed through, and the Mets now deal with rainouts like this past weekend, where two games were postponed, and one was called after five innings, a 4-0 Braves win.
