The Brooklyn Nets selected John A. Logan College swingman Jay Scrubb with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

However, shortly after the pick was made, it was reported that the Nets were dealing Scrubb to the Clippers for the No. 57 pick, which was used on Mississippi State center Reggie Perry.

The deal means that Brooklyn technically dealt both of their original selections on draft night, as they had previously traded the No. 19 pick (used on Villanova forward Saddiq Bey) to Detroit as part of a three-team deal that netted them Clippers guard Landry Shemet.

Scrubb went the JUCO route due to being academically ineligible for a D-I scholarship out of high school, but ended up as a two-time NJCAA DI First-Team All-American and the NABC NJCAA Player of the Year in 2020, and skipped out on a commit to Louisville, his hometown school, to declare for the draft.

In two years at Logan, a community college in Southern Illinois, Scrubb averaged 21.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals in 59 games. He was the Region 24 Player of the Year and Great Rivers Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year as a freshman, won GRAC Player of the Year as a sophomore, and was a two-time All-GRAC selection.

Perry, a sophomore, was a McDonald's All-American coming out of high school in Georgia, and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2019. He blossomed in his sophomore season, starting all 31 games he played and averaging 17.4 points, 10.1 boards, and 2.3 assists en route to earning a First Team All-SEC nod and SEC Co-Player of the Year honors from the AP.

The big man also won some hardware on the USA U-19 National Team, averaging 13.1 points and 7.4 boards per game to win Tournament MVP honors and help Team USA win gold in the 2019 FIBA U-19 World Cup.
