Fox Sports’ Nick Wright believes he has created a successful and league-changing trade that involves the Jets on the back of a manila folder.
On Friday’s episode of First Things First, Wright revealed his blockbuster proposal, a four-team trade that would rock the quarterback carousel, sending Deshaun Watson to the 49ers, Jimmy Garoppolo to the Seahawks, Sam Darnold to the Texans and Russell Wilson to New York.
“I have created what I consider my masterpiece,” Wright said.
The full scale of this hypothesized super-trade includes the Jets sending a load of draft picks in addition to Darnold to Houston, to give the Texans fair compensation for their superstar in Watson, who reportedly wants to be traded. In this scenario, New York would send both of its first-round picks in this year’s draft, the second and 12th overall, as well as the 34th overall pick. The team would also have to part ways with its first round pick in 2022, bringing the total cost for Wilson to a total of three first round picks, one second, and Darnold, who has failed to flourish in New York so far in his young career.
In addition to getting Garoppolo, Seattle would get defensive standout Nick Bosa and two first round picks, both San Francisco’s 23rd overall pick this year and their first round pick in 2022.
“Who says no?” Wright asked.
Wilson appears to be a long shot to be traded, but he did voice frustration of getting hit often during last season, but while the Seahawks have received calls expressing interest in the seven-time Pro Bowler, the Seahawks reportedly have no interest in trading their 32-year-old face of the franchise.
The Jets had been connected to Watson as a potential destination, but New York has yet to decide where it will go in its quarterback future, whether it’s taking another look at Darnold with more weapons around him or an aggressive push to pull off a blockbuster deal that could bring in Watson or even Wilson.
If Wright’s deal somehow turned into reality, it would go down as arguably the biggest trade in league history, with the Jets right in the middle of it.
