Tom Thibodeau booed by Timberwolves fans: 'Every boo is a cheer for me'

Tom Thibdeau was greeted with a chorus of boos when his name was announced during team introductions prior to the Knicks taking on the Timberwolves, but the former Minnesota head coach didn't seem to think much of it.

"What reaction?" Thibodeau jokingly replied when asked about the response from his former home crowd.

Thibodeau was fired as Timberwolves head coach and team president almost exactly two years ago, when Minnesota was 19-21 on the season and two games out of a playoff spot. Thibodeau's tenure with the Timberwolves included a dramatic end to Jimmy Butler's tenure with the team, which ended with Butler's trade demands being satisfied in a deal with the 76ers. Thibodeau's Timberwolves went 15-12 after the trade, but he was still fired after a win over the Lakers on Jan. 6 of 2019.

Thibodeau finished his time in Minnesota with a 97-107 record, and led the team to its first playoff appearance in 14 years in 2018. But that wasn't enough to draw any appreciation from the crowd two years later.

"Every boo is a cheer for me," Thibodeau laughed after his Knicks finished off a 96-88 victory.
