Chris Paul is getting set to play in his first NBA Finals, but are agents around the league already looking forward to the star point guard’s offseason, which could involve a move to New York?
According to SNY’s Ian Begley, agents “fear” that the Knicks are a possible destination for Paul in free agency, which would fill a glaring hole for New York, which has been starved for a dynamic point guard for decades.
Paul is in the back half of his career at 36 years old, but helped lead the Suns to an NBA Finals berth after averaging 16.4 points and 8.9 assists this season, while shooting 50 percent from the field and over 93 percent from the free throw line. He earned his second straight All-Star selection this season, and averaged 24 points per game in Phoenix’s series win over the Clippers in the Western Conference Finals.
The Knicks will have the cap space to sign Paul, but could be in play for other point guards, and are reportedly monitoring Damian Lillard’s availability should he become available via trade.
