Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale was asked what it has been like trying to game plan for the high-powered Dolphins offense, and he gave a hysterical answer to make light of what will be a daunting task.
“My wife called me last night before she went to bed. She said she was worried about me. She said ‘Are you getting any sleep?’” Martindale said. “I said ‘Yeah, I’m sleeping like a baby. Every two hours I wake up and cry, go to the bathroom and try to go back and get some more sleep.’”
In all seriousness, Miami will be an awfully tough assignment for Big Blue’s defense. With Tua Tagovailoa playing at an MVP level, and two stud receivers in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, the Dolphins have racked up the most passing yards in the league, the most yards per reception, the most rushing yards, and a remarkable five rushes of 40 yards or more already this season, also a league high.
Simply put, the Dolphins have been showing up the Rams teams behind Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce, and Torry Holt.
“It’s unbelievable. But that’s where the league is heading, with some of the other scores, the points have been up pretty high,” Martindale said. “I told our staff, because we’re all old enough to remember The Greatest Show on Turf, this is like that, 2023, supersonic. They are fast. Faster than that.”
