Well, it appears the request was granted. U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly stated jury selection would proceed on August 9 (as planned), but opening statements wouldn't begin until August 18 as opposed to starting immediately after the jury has been selected, the Associated Press reports.

Kelly changed legal teams less than a month ago and due to COVID protocols, they haven't been able to meet with the singer in-person. After traveling from Chicago to Brooklyn, the imprisoned singer was placed under a mandated 14-day quarantine.

Kelly's legal team also requested that he be released on bail to "better assist in his defense." Judge Donnelly quickly denied the request and assured his team that they would have "full access" to him. Kelly has plead not guilty to his criminal charges.
