If you’re still waiting for your stimulus check and want to speed up the process, the window to submit direct deposit information to the IRS is closing.
Submitting your bank account is one of the fastest and most reliable ways to get your $1,200 stimulus check deposited.
However, the deadline to enter your direct deposit information on the Get My Payment site is noon on Wednesday, May 13. The tool may also be used to check the status of your stimulus check payment.
"We're working hard to get more payments quickly to taxpayers," said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. "We want people to visit Get My Payment before the noon Wednesday deadline so they can provide their direct deposit information. Time is running out for a chance to get these payments several weeks earlier through direct deposit."
If information isn’t submitted by the May 13th deadline, the government will begin sending out paper checks.
Paper checks began being issued around April 24 with the IRS following a timeline of mailing 5 million checks each week for up to 20 weeks prioritizing low-income Americans starting with taxpayers who have an adjusted gross income of $10,000.
On Friday, the Treasury Department announced that almost 130 million payments totaling about $218 billion have been sent out so far. They expect to send about 150 million payments total.
The checks are part of the $2.2 trillion stimulus bill Congress passed last month.
Eligible individuals making less than $75,000 a year will receive $1,200, those who earn between $75,000 and $99,000 will see a gradually reduced payment, while those who make more than $99,000 will get nothing.
