CJ McCollum reminds us Crocs are still a thing

Apparently the rubber clog has become "dope" among the young people

CJ McCollum has joined a list of illustrious superstars with the latest release of his signature Crocs. That’s right, the rubber shoes that spent the early 2010’s being ridiculed for resembling a hospital sneaker are now cool. Dudes like Justin Bieber and Post Malone sport these orthopedic deck shoes at parties and raucous get-togethers, often recreated in their music videos (How do you get invited to one of those parties?).

The Blazer guard selected a chill banana tone for his signature plastic paddle-ploppers. Sprinkled throughout the blank top canvas are tiny pieces of flare, referred to by the company as “Jibbitz.” CJ’s Jibbitz include sunglasses, a large pizza, headphone, shark, messages of social empowerment and a foot wearing a Croc. That’s right… His Croc has a Jibbit of a foot wearing a Croc (MIND.BLOWN).

According to Wikipedia, “The company has since established a considerable following with American middle school and high school students, with many opting for Crocs to use as school shoes for the school day.” Being a 33-year-old man-child, I’m not going to pretend to know what’s cool anymore. Back in my day, the kids would wear Nike sneakers to be hip (and occasionally SKETCHERS).

McCollum’s deal with Crocs is a positive sign he’s attracting national attention, which could draw interest in the Trail Blazers and their improbable success through injury. You would also like to think CJ is going to sport these things on the sideline during a game this season. Hopefully CJ’s yellow kiddie cloggers draw inspiration to his teammates.
