Another year, another coordinator?

With rumors that Joe Moorhead is going to Akron, Oregon might have another OC vacancy

Oregon Ducks’ offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead is expected to be on the move to Akron, after numerous reports suggested he would become the next head coach of the Zips. It’s an interesting move for the 48-year-old offensive mastermind, who expanded Oregon’s offensive capabilities with Anthony Brown under center. Moorhead could easily have competed for a more high-profile gig but it seems he’s more set on returning to his old stomping grounds (Moorehead spent five seasons as the Zips’ OC).

Now, Oregon finds themselves in deja vu, searching for another coordinator to replace. It’s the gift and curse of being such a talented program.

There are plenty of viable candidates in the field for Oregon to choose from. There has been some chatter about Dan Mullen coming to Eugene to lead the Ducks’ offense, though that seems far-fetched for the former Florida coach at this point. Considering what happens at Notre Dame, Tommy Reese is an interesting candidate that could bring much needed youth to the position. It’s unclear how talented a recruiter he is, though.

Whatever the Ducks decide to do, they’ll need to act fast. It’s paramount that whoever takes over the OC role tries to develop players in the same system that Moorhead has been leading the past couple of years.
