The Trail Blazers lost to the Jazz Thursday night, 122-103.
The outcome was fairly predictable, even when Portland was down only three points after the first half. But the 3rd quarter had to happen and apparently the pairing of Carmelo Anthony and Enes Kanter did as well. The team’s lack of defense and timely scoring resulted in a big loss. Blazers are now 8-14 against winning teams. It’s an unsettling trend.
“Oh, there’s no question the pressure is mounting,” said Jason Quick, FAN Blazers Insider, and contributor for The Athletic.
“I think Terry Stotts’ job is on the line, and it will greatly depend on how successful they are in the playoffs,” he said. The Trail Blazers have advanced past the first round of the playoffs only two times.
Those included a run to the Western Conference Finals and beating by the Warriors in the semi-finals. It’s hard to believe much will change though, as many fans will continue packing the Moda Center, post coronavirus restrictions.
But Quick is hesitant to assume much under owner Jodie Allen’s watch.
“Last year, Jodie Allen paid the most money for an NBA roster,” Quick said. “She has supported this team from a financial stand point and she has zero results for it.”
“From what I am told, she is very results oriented.
She needs to see what her money is getting her.” Everything depends on how front office leadership views the future of this basketball team. This season will be the marker for years to come
