DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys fans are well aware of the things that Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup can do on the field, and by now the hype surrounding rookie wideout CeeDee Lamb and his dominance in camp has likely reached their ears as well.
However, with the departures of Randall Cobb and Tavon Austin after last season, there are still two wide receiver spots that are largely up for grabs.
Among the candidates to earn those spots are the likes of Devin Smith, Jon'Vea Johnson, Ventell Bryant, as well as Noah Brown and Cedrick Wilson, the latter two of which, per Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, have really "separated themselves" thus far in camp.
"I think there's a group there of, you know, Noah Brown's really done a great job," Jones told 105.3 The Fan's K&C Masterpiece on Monday. "He's Shown up, I don't know how much y'all have been in practice. He's showed up big time. Ced Wilson showed ip. Those guys probably at the end of the day have really separated themselves as the next tier."
Brown, who has been with the Cowboys since 2017, has never had eye popping stats, made the most exciting plays, making just nine receptions on 17 targets for a total of 87 yards in 21 games with the team. And thanks to an injury, Brown was unable to step on the field in 2019 at all.
Over that time though, he managed to prove himself invaluable as a blocker in the run game and screen games for Dallas, almost as a sort of hybrid tight end.
Wilson, on the other hand, hasn't had much of an opportunity in games, making just five receptions on eight targets for 46 yards in six games in his rookie season, before going down with a knee injury last December.
Now, with the competition for the final two spots in the wide receiver rotation wide open, both players have the opportunity to seize a spot on the 53 man roster, and prove that they can make a lasting impact at the NFL level.
