The Texas Rangers have placed shortstop Corey Seager on the 10-day injured list after he strained his left hamstring in the club's 8-5 win over the Royals on Tuesday at Globe Life Field.
Rangers GM Chris Young told media members, including 105.3 The Fan's Jared Sandler, that Seager suffered a grade 2 hamstring strain and would be out a minimum of four weeks.
Texas re-called center fielder Leody Taveras to take Seager's place on the roster. Taveras, who missed the first 11 games of the season due to a strained oblique, is in the starting lineup for the Rangers' series finale against the Royals on Wednesday night.
Josh Smith, who replaced Seager after he was forced from Tuesday's game, is batting second and will start at shortstop Wednesday.
Seager came up hobbling as he was heading to second base on an opposite-field base hit in the top of the fifth inning. He limped off the field and was replaced by Smith on the basepaths.
Losing Seager is a big blow to the Rangers' lineup, as he is hitting .359 after going 2 for 2 with a walk against the Royals.
“Gosh, he’s been swinging the bat so well,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. “You hate to see it because he’s been on fire. I mean he’s just squaring up everything.”
Seager missed a month in 2019 when he strained his left hamstring while playing for the Dodgers.
