This week Amber Star takes us back to 1980 for the Friday Night Flashback. That was the year Ronald Reagan was elected president, John Lennon was murdered, Mt. St. Helen's erupted, and the Rubik's Cube was a popular mind boggling toy.
Top movies included Urban Cowboy, Caddyshack, and The Empire Strikes Back.
New TV shows in 1980 included Magnum P.I. (the one with Tom Selleck), Too Close For Comfort, and Bosom Buddies starring a pre-movie star version of Tom Hanks.
During the 1980 Winter Olympics we watched as speed skater Eric Heiden (a Madison West graduate) won 5 gold medals. And two Wisconsin Badgers were part of the USA hockey team that upset the Soviets in the Miracle On Ice. (Mark Johnson and Bob Suter).
What songs were popular in 1980? Tune in at 10pm on Friday to find out.
The Friday Night Flashback is thanks to Funk's Pub in Fitchburg. Feel the vibe.
