This week Amber Star takes us back to 1981, the year the first space shuttle (Columbia) blasted off. It was really quite the big deal that a space craft could blast into space, safely come back to Earth and fly again.
Ronald Reagan became president, was shot, and survived. It was also the year Reagan fired a bunch of striking air traffic controllers, and he nominated the first woman to the US Supreme Court, Sandra Day O'Connor.
Lady Diana married Prince Charles, and an estimated 750 million people watched. In another big deal wedding, Luke and Laura got married on General Hospital and 30 million people tuned in. As I recall, GH was a must-watch on college campuses.
Big movies included Stripes, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, and On Golden Pond. New TV shows included Dynasty, Entertainment Tonight, and Hill Street Blues.
Listen to the Friday Night Flashback at 10pm on Friday. Sponsored by Funk's Pub in Fitchburg. Feel the vibe.
