WATCH MORE: NASA is taking Mars back home to Earth
While we've been distracted by NASA flying their cute little helicopter around on Mars, a crazy feat in and of itself, it's what they plan to do with the Perseverance rover's latest moves that is extra wild.
Perseverance has drilled and collected some Martian rocks and is getting ready to hand them off to another craft that will arrive, receive, and return to Earth with the precious samples.
“For all of NASA science, this is truly a historic moment,” Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for science at NASA HQ in Washington, said in a statement. All of this happens a zillion miles away from Earth on another freaking planet, mind you!
There’s a whole lot more beautiful nerdiness where this came from. Listen weekdays at noon on your favorite Audacy Alternative stations. Download the free app now to listen on the go!
