For the first time in its 29 year history, Chipotle is rolling out its first new menu innovation featuring chicken.
Pollo Asado will appear this week in select Chipotle locations across the U.S. and Canada.
The newest tasty offering is made by first taking a piece of chicken, rolling it in a special blend of spices, and then searing it on the plancha. When ready, they chop it up and mix with marinade, fresh-squeezed lime, and cilantro. There are reportedly some hints of garlic and guajillo peppers in there too.
The company first started testing the product in Sacramento and Cincinnati last November to gauge customer opinion and make tweaks before settling on, and sending out, the final recipe.

Of course this isn’t the first chicken item at the famed chain. As People reports, Chipotle's classic chicken offering, Adobo Chicken, has long been the company's top-selling protein.
Chicken itself has been “easily our most popular protein, with many of our most loyal Chipotle customers ordering it the majority of the time," said Chipotle's Chief Marketing Officer Chris Brandt.
But Pollo Asado offers a fresh chicken spin. "We're thrilled to introduce fans to another flavor of chicken that brings a whole new dimension to any Chipotle order,” Brandt added, “and will certainly be a crowd pleaser."
Pollo Asado is now available at select locations, if for a limited time. It can be ordered both in-restaurant and to go, via online, mobile, and delivery orders.
And if you really want to jump on it, Pollo Asado is being offered for customers at “a $0 delivery fee on all U.S. orders placed through the Chipotle app and at Chipotle.com between March 14 through March 20.”
The introduction of Pollo Asado follows two other recent vegan and vegetarian-friendly menu innovations for Chipotle – Plant-Based Chorizo and three new Lifestyle Bowls.
