Tips on How To Protest Safely

Black Lives Matter West Seattle

Today (June 12th) Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County (BLMSKC) will be organizing their first event; a silent protest march and statewide general strike. They will be gathering at Judkins Park at 1pm with the silent protest starting at 2pm. The route will take you down 23rd Avenue S, ending at Jefferson Park for about a 2 mile march.BLMSKC has made it very clear that this is their first organized event, that they have not organized any of the demonstrations against police brutality that have been taking place across WA state over the last several weeks. Their website further explains, "Our chapter has made it very clear that we don’t want to put people at risk in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. So for those who can’t participate in a physical gathering, we urge you to participate in the general strike and in actions that we post online throughout the day."

Below are some tips on how to protest safely during the era of COVID-19. You can visit BLMSKC site here for a more extensive safety guide.

If you can't march, BLMSKC encourages you to strike and to take the day off and spend the time familiarizing yourself with elected officials.
