Chris Cornell's Widow Takes Soundgarden to Court

Cover Image

Vicky Cornell, the widow of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, is taking the band to court in Florida. According to TMZ:

"Vicky Cornell filed legal docs, claiming the remaining members of Soundgarden are withholding hundreds of thousands of dollars in royalties owed to her and Chris' minor children."

The widow claims this is all an "unlawful attempt to strong-arm Chris' Estate into turning over certain audio recordings created by Chris before he passed away." It's thought that Chris worked on as many as seven tracks before his passing" and Vicky sees the tracks as "solely authored by Chris; contain Chris' own vocal tracks; and were bequeathed to Chris' Estate" which ultimately would benefit their minor children.

TMZ reports that Soundgarden sees it differently and that they had been "working on the files in a collaborative effort... The entire band was feeling very positive about their rekindled artistic energy and creativity" before Cornell died.

From where I sit we'll obviously want to hear directly from Soundgarden before jumping to conclusions, but one thing's for sure - if Soundgarden get voted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the induction ceremony could prove awkward...
