Ridership may be way down, but that didn't stop years of planning to build a new ferry terminal for the ride across to Whidbey Island.
With a 3-yo in tow, we spend a fair amount of time throwing rocks into other stuff and the Mukilteo Lighthouse Park is a great spot to visit for said hurling. When we pulled up, the old ferry dock wasn't there anymore! We had to check it out.
It's a beautiful, wood-finished facility inspired by the Coastal Salish longhouses promising energy efficiency for the second busiest ferry port in the region.
The pull-up ferry holding lanes seem like a massive improvement to the old spot that jutted off from the main road. I do feel bad for the likes of Ivar's who lose that bored-in-line walk-up traffic that was built in for them.
It'll probably be a while before we get ferrying around like we used to, but this spot is so close to us, and Whidbey Island Bagel Factory is just a few minutes on the other side that we'll probably get a lot of use out of this spot.
