Video: Lightning strikes SEA-TAC bound airplane

Planes are designed for this, right?

Lightning struck an Alaska Airlines flight on it's way to SEA-TAC International Airport on Monday and a Seattle redditor had a camera pointed right at it.

Holy. Crap. Now while this happens regularly to flying metal tubes through stormy roiling clouds, if you saw this happen out the window of the flight, how do you not freak out?!

Why was /u/magmaticzebra filming in the first place? "Heard a couple strikes before this, figured I'd see if I could capture one. Plane got in the way."

While super freaky, jets like the one used by Alaska for this flight are designed to withstand lightning strikes. KOMO news reports that the storm wasn't that wild "the National Weather Service only registered four lightning strikes on the ground in the Seattle area during the storm, with two strikes more detected in Pierce County." Imagine being hit my 25% of the lightning in a storm! Then imagine capturing that on video. Sheesh.
