I discover new music at this station through a variety of ways; often I am contacted directly by the artist, sometimes I hunt for it myself, and occasionally someone sends me a tune on behalf of an artist. I'll often get "locked in" with going through the new list of music each wee and will not even register the name of the artist so that the song just hits me and I get an unadulterated impression.
In this case, it was my friend and supervisor at the station who wanted to make sure I heard this. As soon as I pressed play I was instantly transported. "What is this haunting, gorgeous melody? Who wrote this? Olivia Vedder? Whoa!" were my initial thoughts. After playing it in October, I instantly heard from producer pals who agreed that the beautiful musicianship and mix (fellow local SYML co-produced the song) was standout.
