The U.S. reached a milestone for COVID-19 vaccinations!

More than 1 in 4 adults are now fully inoculated as vaccination efforts ramp up to include a wider-range of age groups,

According to data published by the CDC, more than 66 million Americans have gotten both doses of the vaccine.

More than a third of Americans, or roughly 112 million, have received at least one dose.

NBC News reports that certain states like New Mexico, South Dakota, and Alaska surpassed the national average and fully vaccinated more than 30 percent of their adult population.

All 50 states are now set to open up vaccinations to Americans 16 and up by April 19.

Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson are currently testing the vaccine on children 12 and under. CDC director Rochelle Walenksy revealed that she believes in-person learning will be restored by the start of the fall semester

While vaccinations continue to increase, the number of COVID-19 cases have plateaued at a level that could still surge, which is why Dr. Anthony Fauci believes it’s critical to vaccinate all Americans.

“It’s almost a race between getting people vaccinated and this surge that seems to want to increase,” he said pointing to a spike in Europe.

Fauci also urged Americans not to get complacent and continue practicing safety protocols, such as wearing face masks.

“Hang in there a bit longer...Now is not the time, as I've said so many times, to declare victory prematurely,” Fauci said.

Experts are largely concerned about the coronavirus variants, which was first seen in the UK and is now believed to be the dominant strain in the states.

The three vaccines currently available to Americans are all believed to be effective against the specific variant.
