Catching up at Coachella, Remi Wolf stopped by the KROQ trailer for a chat with Kevan Kenney.
LISTEN NOW: Remi Wolf at Coachella 2023
After Remi took the reigns on the intro, the two got right to it discussing an assortment of topics from Remi’s iller-than-most “fresh custom” Taylor Dorry dress featuring some Nascar-themed fabric and being more nervous for her Coachella set than recording her Live EP at Electric Lady Studios, to her "controlled chaos" approach to making music, and more.
“I actually wasn’t nervous at all,” Remi said about her experience recording at the famous studio. “I’m actually more nervous for today than I was for that.” While recording her Live EP was Remi’s first experience working at Electric Lady, she’s “done a lot more recording there since,” and she absolutely loves it there. “There’s like truly some sort of magic in the air there -- like you walk in and I got chills.” A possible result of “the ghost of Jimi Hendrix” as Kevan suggested, which is not a far-off assumption, since as Remi revealed, “we recorded the EP in what used to be his bedroom.”
For those unfamiliar with Remi Wolf and her music, we are honored to make the introduction. Describing her music as “controlled chaos,” Remi is a “huge improviser” when it comes to making music. “I tend to trust my subconscious and my intuition and my gut a lot more than I trust my brain,” she shared. “So I’ll jam with myself or with whoever I’m in the room with for I don’t know, say ten minutes, and try to wrangle whatever that ten minute recording is and I’ll try to wrangle that into a song and into like a cohesive idea. And yeah, it works for me man… It’s very fun for me, it’s an exciting way to create.”
Remi and Kevan also chatted about her Christmas covers which led to a special 4/20 live cover of Afroman’s “Crazy Rap,” before they played a quick game of family feud. To listen to the entire interview, press play on the clip above.
